KHOTANG, July 15: Flights to and from Tumlingtar airport in Sankhuwasabha have been disrupted for an indefinite period after the runway turned muddy due to incessant rainfall.

Incessant rainfall for the past few days damaged the runway forcing the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) to cancel flights to and from the airport, according to the CAAN office in Tumlingtar. CAAN has started blacktopping the runway only this year.

Following the cancellation of flights, hundreds of passengers to Kathmandu and Biratnagar have been stranded in Tumlingtar. Air service is the only reliable means of transportation for the locals of this remote eastern hilly district.

Meanwhile, air services to Bhojpur that were disrupted due to unfavorable weather condition have resumed since Wednesday.
