Agriculture fair begins in Rukum

RUKUM, Feb 23: In a bid to promote commercial farming, a two-day agriculture and industrial fair kicked off in Rukum on Saturday. Lucal Development Officer of Rukum Bharat Kumar Sharma inaugurated the fair.



The fair features locally produced agricultural, livestock, handicrafts, apiary and fishery products. Similarly, seeds and mushroom produced by local farmers and products made from allo fiber have also been showcased in the fair. [break]



Similarly, locally produced garments, blankets and woollen mats have also been displayed in the fair.



Meghraj Thapa, agriculture officer of Rukum, said the fair was organized to encourage local farmers. "We are encouraged with the participation of the farmers," he said, adding that the fair would provide a platform to the farmers to share their experiences.



The event is being organized by District Agriculture Development Office, Rukum in coordination with local non-government organizations (NGOs). The organizers are also offering interest-free loan to encourage commercial farming.



Although majority of the farmers in the district are into farming, commercial farming has yet to begin in the district.
