Afghanistan defeats Bhutan

KATHMANDU, Sept 2: Afghanistan defeated Bhutan 3-0 to make a winning start in the SAFF Championship Football tournament underway in the capital.



In the first match of the day held in the AFP grounds in Halchwok today, Hasamtullah Mohammad of Afghanistan opened the scoring in the 39th minute and followed it up with another in the 87th minute. Earlier Mustafa had doubled the score with a goal in the 75th minute of the match. [break]



Bhutanese captain Pasang had failed to convert a penalty that he was awarded in the 74th minute of the match.



The second match between Sri Lanka and Maldives is presently underway at Dasarath stadium, with Maldives leading by 2-0 up to the 30th minute of the first match.
