Chasing the modest target of 161 revised due to rainfall, Nepal was bowled out for 157 runs. The match was interrupted briefly in the 27th over while Nepal had reached 84 runs losing three wickets.
Earlier, put to bat first Afghanistan had set the target of 170 runs losing nine wickets in the one-day format. The man-of-the-match Basanta Regmi claimed five wickets for Nepal. [break]
Despite sound start in batting Nepal lost its middle order and tail ender batsmen cheaply which resulted in Nepal´s defeat. Nepal´s skipper and the fourth order batsman Paras Khadka cracked 60 off 73 as Nepal had raced to 131/4. Khadka was caught in 37.5 over by Dawlat.
Opener Subash Khakurel (23), Gyanendra Malla (24) and Sarad Vesawkar (24) were the other batsmen for Nepal to score double digit figure. Anil Mandal (3), Prithu Baskota (2), Basanta Regmi (7), Sagar Pun (1), Shakti Gauchan (1) were out cheaply while Chandra Sawad remained unbeaten. Pun, Gauchan, Sawad, Vesawakar and Mandal were run out.
Nepal´s last victory over Afghanistan was in the ACC Trophy Elite 2004, which was the latter´s first international participation in cricket. Since then, Afghanistan has been defeated Nepal in all their four meetings.
