Adults and animations

KATHMANDU, June 3: “Ye motu bhag, ye to Faugi hai”, yep that’s what was making me laugh when my sister asked me to change the Channel and see something interesting like “Saas Bhau aur Sajis”.

But it was Oggy and the Cockroaches and I didn’t understand what could be more interesting than them. Well when it comes to cartoon I can never understand because I’m lost in my own world of cartoons.[break]

I am a 24 year old guy and I think is there no age barrier when it comes to watching cartoons. Every time I get some free time, I turn to channels like Disney, Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon among others and think there is nothing wrong with those channels.

Aren’t the ones like me allowed to watch those moving pictures? Why that is the women must be lost in their TV serials and music and the males in news and wrestling? While these actions are taken normally, me enjoying Phineas and Ferb is seen as funny because I am too old to be watching it.

Since my childhood I was a cartoon freak. Thanks to my parents I used to watch some of my favorites show of the time while growing up. They did provide me some freedom for my passion.

The Flintstones, Jetsons, Space Ghost, Bird Man, Captain Planet and Josie and the Pussycats were some of my favorites and they still are. Taken as a whole I merely missed any shows of Hanna Barberry series. It meant the whole world to me.

Since then things have changed but not my craze for cartoons. “Don’t you realize you have grownup?” is what I am always asked when I’m lost with someone like Ben 10.

And the moments they compare me to some child from the neighborhood, my relatives make me more than mad. I see no harm in watching them yet I’m accused of seeing those children’s program. Sometimes I can’t stop laughing at my elders for thinking watching cartoons is childish. Still am alone in this fight.

I still remember the last Sunday when I wanted to see Shrek and I was scolded for showing my childish behavior. Whenever I try to speak about the growing animation industry all over the globe, what I get is a simple answer with a nasty look, “Sometimes it’s good for refreshment, what else can one expect from them and what can you even learn?” As if the TV serials and wrestling which educate us about fighting and creating conspiracy among relatives, are worth watching all the time.

The fact I never understood is what is the problem with the animations? Why the grownups (that’s what they feel they are) feel cartoons are just for children.

Why is that they feel that those who watch these stuffs are not worth listening to. Well this all has made me come to one conclusion, either I am crazy or the world out there is insane.
