Actor Jackie Chan’s one day trip to help Nepal earthquake victims

KATHMANDU, June 9: Almost a month after donating USD 100,000 to earthquake victims in Nepal, actor Jackie Chan arrived in Kathmandu on Tuesday morning to extend his helping hand. The 61-year-old actor was here to distribute relief materials collected through the Jackie Chan Charitable Foundation.

The Hong Kong action star was in the capital at the invitation of Red Cross Society China and Nepal Red Cross Society.

According to reports, he landed at Tribhuvan International Airport at 11:30 AM and headed straight for Soaltee Crowne Plaza in Tahachal. The actor left the same night at around 11 PM.He visited Chyasal and Siddhipur VDCs in Lalitpur, and also stopped by the Jawalakhel ground where he distributed hygiene kits to people with disabilities.

Sanjeev Thapa, Chairman of Nepal Red Cross Society, informed that Chan also visited Balkumari to distribute some of the relief materials. "He distributed a box of relief materials to the disabled people and families living at the camp set up for earthquake victims in Jawalakhel. He could only visit a few places because of limited time he had in Nepal. He brought 5,000 boxes of relief materials with him," he informed.

Each box contained 13 different items like a jacket, a handkerchief, a mat and a blanket. As news of his visit spread, Chan's fans thronged around him and he couldn't visit some of the scheduled places, added Thapa.

The actor also held a discussion about the extent of the damage left behind by the earthquake with Red Cross officials at the office premises of Nepal Red Cross Society in Kalimati.

The renowned actor, who has worked in films like 'The Karate Kid', 'Rush Hour' and 'The Young Master', has a Hollywood Walk of Fame in recognition of his achievements.
