Activists urge protesters to exercise restraint

KATHMANDU Aug 20: A group of noted civil society activists has urged the public to press their demands peacefully.

Issuing a statement Wednesday, they appealed to protesters to exercise restraint.They have also asked the government not to use 'excessive force' against demonstrators as the use of force by security personnel in some districts has led to the deaths of protestors, thus aggravating the crisis.

Daman Nath Dhungana, Sundar Mani Dixit, Surendra KC, Dharmendra Jha, Surendra Mahato, Ganesh Kumar Mandal, Bikash Thakur, Narendra Jung Peter, Charan Prasai, Om Gurung, Shankar Limbu and Zahid Pervez, among others, jointly issued the statement.

They have also asked the government and CA members to immediately hold talks with the agitators and address their demands. "Lawmakers should play a crucial role in maintaining communal harmony at a time when the country is passing through a crucial stage," reads the statement.
