KATHMANDU, Jan 26: The passport department has prepared an action plan to reduce the number of customers and implement it.

The department has said that an action plan has been prepared to expedite the services so as to reduce the crowd at the department.

Durupada Sapkota, director and spokesperson for the department, said that the department is preparing to implement the action plan to reduce the number of customers. He said, “We have prepared an action plan to reduce the hours-long queues and congestion of customers, but homework is being done on what kind of action plan to make.”

Spokesperson Sapkota said that the blueprint of the action plan is under discussion and will be implemented after it is passed by all the responsible agencies. He claimed that the passport department will see improvements in the next two to three months. Due to problems in the department's software and various other reasons, the customers are still forced to stand in lines for hours.

Earlier, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane gave instructions to the officials to manage the crowd. It is said that the crowd of passport-seekers outside the passport department is still the same.

The customers complain that it is difficult to find time to apply online and go to the office to take a photo and do the biometrics. “On top of that, the site is not functioning. Even if the site opens, it is a problem that the application cannot be submitted,” they added.

Spokesman Sapkota said that initiatives are being taken to address the problems and complaints of the customers by the passport department.
