At an interaction program jointly organized by Minimum Wage Fixation Committee and Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Ilam Chapter on ´Implementation of Working Journalists Act´ in Ilam on Friday, media professionals voiced their complaint that the working journalists have been compelled to work on remuneration lesser than that the committee fixed. Rabindra Subedi of Ilam FM shared his experience that he has been working on the wage lesser than Rs. 6,200, which is the minimum amount fixed by the committee.
It is difficult for small media outside the Kathmandu valley to implement the working journalists Act as the government media have also not taken initiative regarding its implementation, said news department head of Radio Nepalbani FM, Somnath Susheli.
Radio out the valley are facing a hard time due financial crisis, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson of radio FIkkal FM, Ganesh Rasik and Committee Chairperson Mahendra Bista said all problems related to working journalists will get settled once the Act is implemented.
'Social Welfare Act' to be amended as an umbrella act
