ACT Alliance, LWF support over 10,000 quake-hit families

KATHMANDU, May 7: ACT Alliance Nepal Forum and Lutheran World Federation (LWF) Nepal in collaboration with host of other organizations have supported over 10,000 earthquake-hit families that included people with disabilities (PWDs), Dalits, women-headed households, senior citizens and indigenous communities.

According to a press statement issued by LWF on Thursday, the alliance provided shelter, food, hygiene kits and other essential items to the most vulnerable and people based in remote areas in Gorkha, Lamjung, Dhading, Sindhupalchowk, Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur districts.

LWF Nepal, the Emergency Operation Secretariat of ACT Alliance Nepal Forum, and a consortium of like-minded humanitarian organizations working in Nepal, provided the support to the quake victims in coordination with the local government agencies after conducting need assessments in those districts."We have supported the most affected families focusing on PWDs, Dalits, senior citizens and the unreached people in those districts. We are scaling up our support and planning for early recovery of the affected people of the worst-hit remote areas of these districts," the statement quoted Country Director of LWF Nepal and Coordinator of Emergency Response, Prabin Manandhar, as saying.

The alliance comprising of Dan Church Aid, the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission, the Amity Foundation, FinnChurch Aid, ICCO Cooperation, LWF Nepal, Lutheran World Relief, and Christian Aid said it would soon cover more village development committees of these districts with shelter, water, sanitation and hygiene, food and non-food items with combined resources, expertise, experience and commitment.
