Krishna Thapa of Purkotdaha-6, Gulmi, Negan KC of Pooja-4, Pyuthan, Raju KC of Chanai-5, Kapilvastu and Prakash Poudel of Simaltari-8, Gulmi, who were arrested on the charge of kidnapping two-year-old Deependra GC of Chanai-5, have revealed this in their statement to the police.[break]
The youths who used to sell memberships of networking business to their relatives hatched the plan to earn millions by abducting children of their relatives after a slowdown in networking business. “We made such plan thinking that it would work due to easy availability of all information on relatives,” Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at the Area Police Office, Butwal, Dan Bahadur Karki, quoted the youths as saying.
DSP Karki said the youths first tried to abduct two kids at two different private schools in Butwal but didn´t succeed. They then somehow managed to get Anup Bhandari, five, studying at nursery at Deep Boarding School on November 15 out of the school but were forced to abandon the kid mid way after he made noise.
Anup´s father Tara, who runs Hariyali Hotel at Nepalgunj Road, Butwal, is an acquaintance of Negan KC and Krishna Thapa. “They had good relations with my partner Bharat Neupane so I also treated them well. But they turned out to be criminals,” Tara said.
Krishna Thapa had sent his pal Raju KC to get five-year-old Prasansa KC, a nursery student at Shishu Gyan Kunja at Pulchowk, posing as the kid´s maternal uncle. Prasansa´s mother Meena, who has shifted to Butwal from Purkot Daha, Gulmi was astounded to know that Thapa, who is her nephew, had tried to kidnap her daugther.
“We didn´t give them the kid after her mother told us over the phone that she had sent nobody to collect her. They were talking with the guard outside the gate and returned after getting the hint that we would not hand over the kid to them,” principal of the school Rita Sharma revealed.
Meena, who revealed that she became member of a networking company on Thapa´s insistence, is now thankful that the school´s wisdom saved her child. “He made the plan knowing that my husband was returning home having worked abroad,” she said.
After failing in their initial projects, the group abducted Madhav GC´s son Deependra on November 21. The plan was hatched by Madhav´s nephew Raju KC, whose house lies in front of GC´s place. Raju KC helped his maternal uncle Madhav in reporting to the police after Deependra´s abduction and accompanied him everywhere so that he would get updated with the police plan.
Police later arrested Raju KC in course of investigation and the gang was eventually busted. “I have still not come to terms with how my own nephew can do such a thing,” Madhav told Republica. Madhav, a carpenter by profession, had recently sold his land for Rs 80,000 to pay off debts accumulated in running the family and Raju KC had hatched the plot to set hands on that money.
The private schools in Butwal are now on high alert after knowing that the abductors had targeted their students. “We have been careful even in the past but now have become more alert,” the principal of Deep Boarding School, Tika Ram Aryal, said.
