KATHMANDU, Sept 16: A new bridge is set to be built at the Narayani River near Narayanghat Bazar, and it will be positioned northward from the current bridge, which is an integral part of the East-West highway.
The Bridge Division, operating under the Department of Road, has formally entered into an agreement with Tundi Construction Pvt Ltd for the construction of this vital bridge, along with the associated mapping. Senior Divisional Engineer at the Division, Krishna Adhikari, revealed that the agreement was signed on June 2, with a project timeline of 48 months for completion.
Signature bridge to be built over Narayani River
The new bridge will be situated on the northern side of the existing one. The construction firm has embarked on preliminary mapping activities, with the mapping phase expected to conclude within the first year. The upcoming bridge is slated to span a minimum length of 420 meters and measure 11 meters in width. Arrangements are also being made to ensure smooth navigation for ships and steamers on the river.
The project carries an estimated cost of approximately Rs 1.68 billion, marking a significant investment in the regional infrastructure. The currently operational bridge was constructed back in 2038 BS.
