Director Sudarshan Thapa’s work in the movie ‘Mero Euta Saathi Chha’ was much appraised in the Nepali film arena. The movie was a refreshing change in the Nepali film industry and many watched the film, making it commercially successful as well. After that came the opportunities to direct a series of other movies which made the already hardworking person strive harder to contribute more to the world of Nepali cinema. [break]

The man behind the hit-makers like ‘Dhanda’, ‘Ke Yo Maya Ho’, and ‘Mero Love Story’, shares that he loves experimenting with new techniques and perspectives in his movies. A vigorous movie watcher himself, Thapa loves watching films and analyzing the skills used in the direction of those films. “As a director, I feel that movies which have characters that the audience can relate to will do well. And movies should be larger than life, so that they become entertaining,” he says.

Even though he has much to be proud of, he is disappointed by the fact that Nepali movies still haven’t been able to win the hearts of many Nepalis and foreign movies are preferred instead. This is the biggest challenge, he thinks, the professionals of Nepali film industry have to face. “Nepali film-makers put in so much effort and time for a movie and if it’s not watched by many people, the hard work goes in vain,” he says.

His new Nepali movie ‘Madhumas’ has released recently and he is expecting a lot from it. “I thoroughly enjoyed working on the movie which is basically a love story. The movie revolves around life after marriage and shows both the positive as well as the negative sides of it,” he says adding that the actors have done a really fine job and he hopes that the audience will like it.

Talking about his future plans regarding his career, he says that he hasn’t thought too far ahead. He shares, “For now, I’m focused on the movie ‘Lamphu’ which keeps me really busy. I will be seen doing the lead actor’s role in the film.”

When not on the sets of a movie, Thapa can be found enjoying football matches as he is an ardent football fan. Thapa, who calls himself a fun loving yet reserved person, also loves to travel and discover new places. There are, indeed, many facets to this talented director!
