KATHMANDU, Dec 31: This New Year’s Eve is special in many ways. Even though this is the first such Eve after government decided to ban nightlife after eleven, the fact that the ban is being relaxed until two comes as welcome news. [break]
"We´ve a special security plan for New Year´s Eve," Nawa Raj Silwal, chief of Metropolitan Police Range office Kathmandu said, "Along with mobile security personnel and a Control Room Vehicle (CRV) we´re also monitoring the major party hubs with CCTV."
According to him, security is dense around Thamel and Durbar Marg. The government had relaxed the ban till one on Christmas Eve.
"Although the ban has certainly affected New Year parties, it isn´t all that bad you know," Robin Sitaula, event coordinator of partynepal.com said to myrepublica.com. "To party till two is just as good as having it all night. Besides, in a way it is good, because after two, most of the people will be drunk and the time is good for nothing but fights."
That aside, New Year’s will also surprise Kathmanduites with the reopening of Galaxy discotheque that has closed for over eight months now. However, as DJ Ankit informs the discotheque will open up for a day (New Year´s Eve) only. So put on your dancing shoes and rock to the tunes of DJ Ankit to bid farewell to the bygone year.
And of course, not to forget the much hyped performance by Britney (Lorna) Spears at Soaltee Crowne Plaza. If not with Britney herself, this New Year will blast off with this "international sensation" as Manju Shrestha, sales coordinator at Soaltee likes to call Lorna.
