KATHMANDU, July 6:  The two-day Vitamin ‘A’ capsule and de-worming tablet administration program for children between six and five years of age kicked off today.

Under the campaign, children from six months to five years will be administered Vitamin ‘A’ capsules and those between one year to five years of age will be given additional de-worming (albendazole) tablets.

Female community health volunteers are distributing Vitamin ‘A’ capsules and de-worming tablets at different vaccination centers and ward offices throughout the country in all the local units.  This will continue even on Tuesday.

According to the Department of Health Services, as many as 2.7 million children between 6 months and five years of age will be administered these medicines.

The nationwide campaign is conducted twice a year - Baisakh 6-7 and Kartik 2-3 in the Nepali calendar every year. The program scheduled for May 18 and 19 was postponed owing to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
