GORKHA, Feb 27: UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said that Baburam Bhattarai had won elections on the ground of being a Maoist.

Talking to journalists at the Gorkha district headquarters on Saturday, Dahal said, "People voted Baburam Bhattarai on the ground of being a Maoist – not for his PhD degree."

Coming hard on Bhattarai, who has recently formed Naya Shakti (new political force) after defecting the UCPN (M), Dahal accused Bhattari of betraying the people who elected him to the Constituent Assembly (CA).

Meanwhile, Dahal said preparations are underway to move ahead by forming a unity government after the general convention of the Nepali Congress (NC). He also added that it would not make any difference to his party even if the consensus is forged to run a next government under the current one or under the leadership of any other party.

Dahal further said that even though Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's recent state visit to India created positive vibes in terms of ties between the two countries, it has not become completely successful.

"Oli's India visit has not been fully successful because fuel supply has not yet been eased, southern neighbor is still not positive toward our constitution, nor have Madhesi parties accepted it," argued Dahal.

Dahal who arrived in Gorkha on Friday evening  for cadres orientation program, held meetings with Chief District Officer of Gorkha, businesspersons on Saturday and is returning to Kathmandu today evening.
