POKHARA, Dec 8: Nepal Telecom (NT) has started providing 3G Internet service on Tilicho-Jomsom trail.

The state-owned telecom service provider has installed a tower at Kaishang Camp near Nilgiri Himal to provide the service.

Ananta Man Singh, regional chief of NT in Pokhara, said trekkers returning from Tilicho Lake (4,919 meters) can now enjoy faster data service. “They, however, won't be able to enjoy 3G service in the periphery of the lake.

According to Singh, the tower supports data transmission at 7.2 Mbps. Along with trekkers and trekking support staff, Singh said military trainees at Nepal Army's High Altitude Institute at Jomsom will also benefit from the service.

At present, around 250 army personnel, including those from foreign countries, are receiving training at the institute. Around 2,500 foreign tourists visit Tilicho Lake every year.
