BHAKTAPUR, Nov 12: Deputy Prime Minister CP Mainali on Wednesday said it was a mistake on the part of Nepal to hinge on India for fuel despite the Indian government's economic blockade to Nepal in 1989.

At a greetings exchange program organized by CPN (ML), Bhaktapur, DPM Mainali said the attribute to current crisis partly goes to Nepal's failure to learn lesson from the post.

The DPM said Nepal must not cower before India but seek alternatives to become self-dependent. The government is taking necessary diplomatic steps to import fuel from India and open all trade points with China, DPM Mainali informed.

DPM Mainali made elaborate the government's plan to form a new committee involving Nepali Congress to address the reasonable demands put forth by the Madhes-centric parties so as to seek a resolution to the current standoff.

Mainali, who is also CPN (ML) General Secretary, said the problem seen in Tarai-Madhes is Nepal's internal problem and made it clear that support of the external forces to resolve the problem was unnecessary.

"We can find solution to all kinds of problems if we keep the country at the centre," he said. RSS
