NC’s Sher Bahadur Deuba proposed Koirala as candidate for PM, while the party’s Vice-president Ram Chandra Paudel seconded him.
Earlier today, Koirala tendered his resignation from his post.
Prime Minister Koirala has handed over his resignation to President Ram Baran Yadav at the latter's official residence in Sheetal Niwas this afternoon, said prime minister's press coordinator Prakash Adhikari.

"Koirala tendered his resignation as he cannot file his candidacy for the next prime minister by remaining in the same post as per the provision," Adhikari told Republica.
A meeting of the Nepali Congress held this morning in Baluwatar had decided to project Koirala as the candidate for the post of prime minister.
Earlier, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli filed his candidacy for the prime minister's post with UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal as proposer and RPP-N Chairman Kamal Thapa as seconder.
