JANAKPUR/JALESHWAR, Sept 7: Agitating cadres of United Democratic Madhesi Front torched district party office of the Nepali Congress (NC) in Janakpur, Dhanusha on Monday.
Around 4,000 agitating cadres of the Front gathered in Janakpur burnt the NC party office into ashes. A clash between police and agitators had erupted after the latter attempted to burn the party office of CPN-UML. Police lobbed half a dozen teargas shells and fired rubber bullets to bring the situation under control that had remained tense for a while.In the clash, Ranjit Sah of Dhanauji, Rupesh Chaudhary of Banauli and Sobhit Raut of Ratauli VDC were the three cadres who were injured in police firing. The agitators, who have sustained rubber bullet injuries are undergoing treatment at Janakpur Zonal Hospital.
Meanwhile, police thrashed a dozen local agitators in the areas between Bhanu Chowk and Shiv Chowk, according to Shesh Narayan Yadav, the Front's coordinator for Dhanusha district.
Professional organizations including Nepal Bar Association, Janakpur, PABSON, and N-PABSON in the district also extended their support to the ongoing protest, staging demonstrations.
Agitators torch 2 police beats in Jaleshwar
Hundreds of agitators on Monday set ablaze two police beats of Nigaul Chowk and Bazar area in Gaushala VDC in Mahottari district.
The cadres and supporters of the Front torched the police beats in the absence of security personnel.
Meanwhile, government employees and members affiliated to over a dozen of professional organizations and the government, Nepal teachers' union, and health institutions also staged a demonstration expressing solidarity with the Front's demands.
Indians provide Rs 100,000 for treating Madhes protestors
Organizing a function in Raxaul across the Nepal-India border near Birgunj, Indian civil society leaders donated Rs 100,000 for the treatment of those injured in Madhes protest, according to Pradeep Yadav, Parsa district chairman of the Federal Socialist Forum Nepal.
Speaking at the function on Monday, civil society leader and professor Anil Kumar Sinha expressed to extend every possible supports to the ongoing protests in the Tarai.
"We'll be compelled to stop imports from India if the government of Nepal does not fulfill the demands of Madhesi agitators," said Sinha.
Madhesi leaders had also attended the function. Laxman Lal Karna, who travelled to Raxaul to attend the function from Kathmandu, had informed the participants about Nepal government depriving of agitating Madhesi people's rights and suppression.
