Those arrested are Prakash Gurung and Ashok Gurung of Lekhnath Municipality. They are said to be directly involved in the murder. Investigation into the incident is still underway.Prior to this, police had already arrested two people for their involvement in the case. They are Raju Ranabhat and Bishwas Gautam, both from Lekhnath. Ranabhat was arrested on the second day after the murder, while Gautam was arrested just three days ago from Rupandehi.
"We arrested them after discovering their direct involvement in the crime," informed SP Hari Bahadur Pal of District Police Office (DPO), Kaski. The other accused, Rabin KC, is still at large, according to the DPO.
Police have also arrested five more people on the charge of helping them hide and flee. The arrested are Chandra Bahadur Thapa Magar of Tanahun, Bharat Paudel of Nawalparasi, Min Bahadur Gale of Pithauli, Rabin Chhetri of Syangja, and Birendra Kumar Ranamagar of Kapilvastu.
Slain Paudel had participated in a municipality-level meeting of the party late on August 13. He had left the meeting at around 11 pm. According to police, he was thrashed to death by a group of people on his way to his house after the meeting. The meeting was called as part of preparations of the upcoming NC convention.
