India beats Sri Lanka by 278 runs in 2nd test

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, Aug 24: Ravichandran Ashwin ripped through Sri Lanka's lineup to complete a five-wicker haul and propel India to a crushing 278-run win in the second test Monday to level the three match series at one match each.

Chasing 413 to win, Sri Lanka was bowled out for 134 shortly after lunch on the fifth day to end Sri Lanka veteran Kumar Sangakkara's illustrious 15-year international career on a disappointing note.


Legspinner Amit Mishra ably supported Ashwin (5-42) with figures of 3-29 and seven wickets for the match.

Dimuth Karunaratne top-scored for Sri Lanka with 46.

Batting first India made 393 in its first innings and Sri Lanka replied with 306. India declared its first innings at 325-8.
