He shared with Republica, five things not many know about him.He was an "example" amongst his friends in school
Not the kind a child is told to look up to, but the kind of exemplary figure a child is told to stay away from. "I was a terrible student, and mischievous child. As a result, all parents warned their children to stay away from me. I only passed SLC on my third attempt!" he says. However, he went on to earn an undergraduate degree in Humanities and believes that education is obligatory in this day and age. "I don't think many actors will succeed today if they don't have any educational background. Education reinforces creativity and that's really important for an actor," he observes.
He was a "lover boy" as a child
He states to have found his first love when he was just a class-six student. A big movie buff, he enjoyed meeting his girlfriend and talking to her in "a filmy style." "Also, my routine was quite simple. I'd meet my girlfriend in the morning, go to cinemas in the afternoon, and again visit her at her home in the evening. I'd stay there till late in the evening until my father was asleep at home and it was safe to go back," he reminisces. He broke up with that girlfriend post SLC.
He was almost caught smoking marijuana once
"It was a Shivaratri night long time back, and I had planned to smoke pot with my friends in a place nearby. The area was quite popular for a Jhakri who put tajib for releasing bad spirits. We smoked so much pot that we regained our senses only in the morning. While I was sluggishly walking towards my village, I saw one of my friends being taken somewhere by his father. I got really scared. If his father knew then my father must have known too, I thought. However, as they got closer, my friend's father instead said, 'My son got red eyes suddenly in the morning and he doesn't feel very good. So I'm taking him to the Jhakri.' My friend winked and I understood. That day, I was almost caught!"
He started meditating after the success of 'Tito Satya'
But the pot days are long since over. Once 'Tito Satya' gained popularity, things got quite difficult for Deepak. So much fame and love from the audiences gave him happiness, and a whole lot of anxiety. "I had never imagined that 'Tito Satya' would be so popular. So I just couldn't handle the success I received. I constantly feared not being able to live up to the expectations." After that, he met his guru who advised him to start meditating. Since then he meditates on a regular basis, and says it has helped him take in only the positive outcomes from his success.
He is a vegetarian
Inspired by his friend and co-star Deepa Shree Niraula, Deepak has abstained from non-vegetarian dishes for over a year. "I've experienced clarity in thoughts and better digestion since I gave up on non-veg food. It was difficult at first, though, especially when I looked at mo:mos." He also had been chewing tobacco for 12 years, which he quit on the recent Nepali New Year (April 14, 2015). "It was such a big feat that the earth shook 10 days later!" he jokes.
