KATHMANDU, April 13: In the past year, 745 people have lost their lives due to disaster-related incidents in Nepal. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), a total of 8,861 disaster events were recorded during this period.
NDRRMA Spokesperson Ram Bahadur KC stated that 69 individuals remain missing and 1,702 were injured in these incidents. He added that 18,991 households were affected by various disasters over the year.
The total estimated economic loss caused by these disasters amounts to Rs 3.13 billion.

In the past year, various disaster incidents in Nepal caused significant human casualties. Landslides led to the highest number of fatalities, with 351 people losing their lives. Floods followed with 97 deaths, while lightning strikes claimed 78 lives and fires resulted in 77 deaths. Heavy rainfall caused 8 fatalities, and animal attacks accounted for 43 deaths.
Additionally, altitude sickness led to 24 deaths, air crashes caused 23 fatalities, and snakebites claimed 19 lives. Other disasters like wildfires resulted in 10 deaths, storms/windstorms caused 7 fatalities, and a boat capsizing led to 1 death.
Other miscellaneous incidents caused 7 more deaths. In terms of missing persons, 48 people were reported missing due to landslides, 18 from floods, and 3 due to snow avalanches.
Most fire incidents recorded this year
According to data from the NDRRMA, the highest number of disaster incidents this year is related to fire outbreaks. Between 13 April 2024 and 11 April 2025, a total of 4,145 fire incidents were recorded. This was followed by 1,195 wildfire incidents and 1,005 landslides.
Other incidents include 418 floods, 568 heavy rainfall events, 418 lightning strikes, 477 animal attacks, and 111 altitude sickness cases. Additionally, there were two air crashes, 84 snake bites, 349 storms, one boat capsizing, 6 snow avalanches, 74 earthquakes, one hailstorm, and 7 other disaster-related events.
