8 people perish in landslides

KATHMANDU, June 29:
Eight persons were killed and two others have gone missing in separate incidents of landslides triggered by incessant rainfall in Tanahun and Baglung districts on Thursday night.



According to our Tanahun correspondent Samundra Poudel, seven persons, including four of a single family, were killed when a rain-triggered landslide fell on the house they were in, at Tyakkidanda of Jamune VDC-1, last night. [break]



Local Sai Bahadur BK’s house was hit by a landslide, killing his wife Rupa BK, 24, sister Samjhana BK, 15, and daughters eight-year-old Purnima BK, and six-year-old Debiya BK. Sai Bahadur is in India for employment.



Likewise, his neighbors Sushma BK, 20 and Durga BK, 15, and two-year-old child Rekha BK, where were also in the same house, are the other victims of the mishap that happened at around 3:00 am, police said.

 

The bodies of the deceased were dug out Friday morning, deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Gautam Raj Kattel informed. Their bodies are being brought to the Damauli Hospital for autopsy.



According to our Baglung correspondent Dilip Poudel, Pavitra Sunar was buried to death after Tek Bahadur Khatri´s house was hit by a rain-triggered landslide at Hatiya VDC-3 of the district. Sunar was a tenant in the house.



Her son Sudip and Pavitra Khatri, a member of the house, were also buried in the landslide. Police and locals are searching for the missing duo. Police say their chances of survival are very less.
