BIRATNAGAR, Nov 23: Locals of Biratnagar have expressed anger over the 'never ending delay' in road construction. Stating that the long ongoing road construction with construction materials left around haphazardly has put their life and health at risk, they have urged the government to fix this issue without further delay. A number of roads in the town are being built and repaired.

"We are in a death trap, look at the roads," fumed Santosh Mandal, a businessman based in Biratnagar."There are so big potholes, dust everywhere, sand and bricks all around," he added.  Small to big road accidents are almost casual in the town. Unsafe roads and pollution have  made their life a hell, according to locals. "And yet, the authorities do not seem to be in a hurry to complete the project. We just do not know how long they will take to complete it," stated Mandal. He added that the business community is the most hard-hit by the worse road condition.

Along with some sub roads, the authorities are currently working on the six-lane Bargachhi–Roshsheh road as well. Even though these projects had earlier elated the locals, the "lethargic attitude" of the authorities has now left them upset. "They have been widening the road for over past three years and yet there is no remarkable progress. We are fed up," said Mandal. "It was better left a four-lane road rather than expanding it to a six-lane ," he added.

The Bargachhi–Roshsheh road was four-lane earlier. In view of the extreme pressure of vehicles, the authority had decided to make it a six-lane one. The chief minister of Province 1 has stated that the six-lane road and other roads will be in proper shape soon. He has time and again reiterated that infrastructures like roads are the government's priority.
