78 cases of scrub typhus diagnosed since July

CHITWAN, Sept 1: Out of the patients who came for treatment at various hospitals of the district since last July, 78 have been diagnosed with the scrub typhus infection.

According to the District Public Health Office, 78 out of 306 people who underwent lab tests were found with the infection.

Public Health Officer Bimal Patel said 33 of the total infected are from Chitwan while 45 from outside the district.

In the last fiscal year, 248 people had tested positive for scrub typhus while conducting a sample test among 762 people. The Scrub Typhoid infection is transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected insect.

Fever, redness in the eyes, cough, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea, breathing complications, severe headache, joint and muscle pain, malaise, and sometimes black spots in the bite site are its common symptoms.
