The NHRC team had reached Mahadevsthan and Chandenimandan VDC on Wednesday following news reports on Tuesday, saying the rice distributed by WFP is unfit for consumption.
The NHRC team comprising members Mohna Ansari and Govinda Sharma Poudyal has also collected rice samples distributed by WFP in the VDCs.
“We have asked the locals not to consume the rice until the samples are tested in laboratory,” said Ansari.
Don’t throw that rice water away, use it like this!
The Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS), after receiving the rice provided by WFP, had distributed 10 kg of rice to each household in the villages.
The NHRC team has also collected rice samples from the Panchkhal and Keraghari VDCs.
“We have asked the locals not to consume rice distributed by WFP until the samples are tested in lab,” said Ansari. WFP had distributed a total of 338 quintals of rice in the VDCs.
Consumer rights activist advocate Harisharan Dahal, who reached the site, said the rice was not even fit for consumption.
The WFP’s Kavre district coordinator Birendra Kathayat said the organization was also carrying out a separate test of the distributed samples.
WFP has already distributed over 2,200 quintals of rice across the district, whereas it aims to distribute a total of 8,925 quintals of rice in the district.
