As per the press release issued by MCA, the World XI will be made up of several high profile players - currently playing and retired. How the date of the match is yet to be finalized.
MCA informed that it has officially extended the invitation to the government of Nepal as Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) had earlier accepted the proposal of the match.
"The proposed format would be a 50 over day/night match between the Nepal National Team and a World XI comprising several high profile players both current and recently retired ones. All proceeds from the match would be donated to the Nepali people to assist in the rebuilding process," states the press release posted by MCA on its Facebook page.
MCA president Mahinda Vallipuram also presented the official letter at the Nepal Embassy in Kuala Lumpur during a meeting with Niranjan Man Singh Basnyat, Nepal's ambassador to Malaysia.
"On behalf of the Malaysian people and the Malaysian Cricket Association we would like to extend our heartfelt condolences for the loss that your nation has suffered. The Malaysian Cricket Association would like to be the first to register our willingness to assist in the long process of recovery and rebuilding". MCA president Vallipuram said.
Vallipuram added "In this time of crisis the Nepal cricket team is a powerful symbol of national unity and has an important role to play in rebuilding the nation which following the devastation of the recent earthquake will take many years."
After the meeting Basnyat said that the fundraiser match will be important for reconstruction. "This is indeed a great gesture, the relationship between Malaysia and Nepal is very close, and it is during times like these that friendship is important. It will take several years to fully rebuild our country and the proposed annual match will not only be an important fundraiser for the reconstruction but an important publicity tool once the initial media spotlight shifts," Basnyat said.
