KATHMANDU, Aug 12: A person was killed and five have gone missing after a tractor met with an accident at Naharchowk in Satasidham of Jhapa district along the East-West Highway on Wednesday evening.
The overspeeding tractor (Me 1 Ta 1492), transporting stones from Dudhe to Shivagunj, fell into the canal of the Kankai Irrigation Project while trying to take a turn.
The body of one Tulasi Dhimal of Shivagunj-7 was found crushed beneath a boulder inside the canal. Police suspect five others could also be dead as their bodies were also crushed by boulders.
Five of the 11 persons - all from Shivagunj - on the tractor were able to escape the accident by jumping off the vehicle. The five are Govinda Laksam, Rajkumar Majhi, Ganga Majhi, Dipin Majhi and Dinesh Chaudhary of Shivagunj-7, police said.
