KATHMANDU, April 8: Keeping in mind the plight of victims, security of witnesses and fearing possible loss or destruction of evidences, Central Bureau of Investigation (CIB) of Nepal Police has proposed the Kathmandu District Attorney to record statements in the Ranibari murder case under the provision of closed and continuous hearing.

As the cases related to heinous crimes such as rape and murder are considered for fast-track hearings, we proposed continuous hearing in this particular case, CIB Director Hemanta Malla said.

If the hearing is prolonged, it will increase the risks of tampering with evidences and threats to the witness and victims, Malla further said.

Under the recommendation of the District Attorney Office, the District Court Kathmandu has started hearing on the case from Wednesday after recording the statements of two people accused of murder.

Following investigations spanning more than a decade, CIB of Nepal Police uncovered the mystery surrounding the killing of a couple at Ranibari with a sharp khukuri in 2002.

Two arrested identified as contract killers Manaraj Gurung of Dolakha District and Pramesh Chauhan of Ramechap District, on Tuesday recorded their statement at the court.

The people who hired the alleged killers are said to be hiding abroad and living in disguise. According to a court official, the arrested duo has denied any involvement in the murder while recording of their statements.
