Police-student clash obstructs traffic in Chitwan

CHITWAN, March 18: Students at Khairani, Chitwan have been obstructing traffic since this morning demanding a probe into the sudden death of a student at a local school.

Tensions have been running high since a stir brew between students and police in connection to the sudden death of Gaurav Basnet of Kathar-5, Chitwan.Basnet was found hanging in a room of his school, Nepal Adrasha Siksha Sadan on 15 March, under mysterious circumstances.

Police, in today's clash, have baton-charged the students and took some nine students under their control while trying to resume traffic along the East-West highway, according to Sal Bahadur Thapa, Superintendent of Police (SP) at the District Police Office, Chitwan.

Meanwhile, the centre for the School Leaving Certificate (SLC) examination at Nepal Adarsha Sikshya Sadan at Khairani, Chitwan has been shifted to Khairani Higher Secondary School in the district due to the stir regarding the death of Gaurav Basnet, according to the District Education Office, Chitwan.
