A cabinet meeting decided to promote AIG Aryal to the top most post of Nepal Police effective from November 16, just three days ahead of the Constituent Assembly election. [break]
Born at Ramnagar VDC-5 of Siraha district, Aryal joined the police force as an inspector on February 15, 1987 and was promoted to AIG on October 31.
In his 27 year-long career, Aryal had headed the police in different districts, regions as well as investigation branches of the Nepal Police.
His performance was highly acclaimed while he headed Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD).
He will have a four-year of term as the IGP.
Aryal is known for his clean image, sharp investigation skills, quick decision making and managerial skills. According to Nepal Police spokesperson SSP Ganesh KC, Aryal participated in trainings in different countries like the US, the UK, Malaysia, India, China, Maldives, Japan, Mongolia, and former Yugoslavia among others.
Aryal got promoted to the post of DSP in 1993, SP in 2001 and SSP in 2006, DIG in 2009. A day after the Supreme Court ordered the government to furnish clarification in writing as to why Aryal was promoted to AIG with 15 days, the government promoted him to the post of IGP.
The incumbent IGP Rana will be retiring on November 15 along with six AIGs after completion of the 30-year long terms in the police force.
The retiring AIGs are Nawaraj Dhakal, Dinkar Shumsher Rana, Ganga Prasad Pandey, Ramesh Bikram Shah and Pushkar Nath Regmi. AIG Binod Singh had retired few weeks ago.
