The up-and-coming persona has become a source of inspiration to many people. People aspiring for success in the fashion industry, or any other field, for that matter, look up to him. And Nepalis also constitute a major part of that multitude.
An event called ‘In Conversation with Prabal Gurung’ was recently held at the Army Officers’ Club Auditorium in Kathmandu and the hall was full of Gurung’s admirers, gathered to listen to his success story and success mantras.
“My family is the source of my strength and inspiration,” says Gurung. He says he was a bit different from his classmates and even his siblings from early on. Preferring to do things his way since a small child, he shares that he was always interested in doing creative works, like sketching. He also remembers that when he told his friends and family that he was interested in fashion designing, they advised him to take up something else. The profession in Nepal wasn’t much heard of or looked up to in those times. It was his mother who encouraged him to follow his dreams and assured him that being himself was perfectly fine, he reminisces.
To youngsters aspiring to excel in their career, he advises, “There’s room for everyone. All you need to do is believe in yourself, be yourself, and work hard to achieve your dreams.”
He believes that success does not come overnight. It requires years and years of hard work and passion. Fame should not be the goal of a person. When one works passionately, it won’t be difficult to find an audience, he believes.
