DHADING, Nov 19: An elderly woman was beaten mercilessly in Dhading allegedly for practicing witchcraft.


The woman, 72, from Siddhilek Rural Municipality became a victim of a brutal attack apparently "for being a witch". Not just that, the septuagenarian was also compelled to eat cow dung and drink urine. On November 14, a man called in three shamans to his house after he suddenly started shivering and murmuring.

Claiming that he was haunted by a witch, the shamans pointed at the elderly woman who according to them practiced witchcraft. Later, all four of them brutally attacked the elderly woman, according to police. The woman was badly injured. There are blue-black marks all over her body. She is currently undergoing treatment at Star Hospital, Kathmandu.


Police had arrested her four assailants on November 15 after being informed about the incident and filed a case against them the next day. The arrestees have been identified as Khol Bahadur Magar, 62, Yam Bahadur Thapa Magar, 45, Harka Bahadur Thapa Magar, 45 and Dhan Bahadur Magar, 35, all from Sidhhilek-4.


DSP Shyam Kumar Mahato said that the culprits might be sentenced to five years in prison and they will have to pay a compensation of Rs 50,000, if proved guilty.
