BIRATNAGAR, Aug 2: Two armed groups have objected to the Home Ministry´s recently launched new security strategy aimed at cracking down criminal activities. They also threatened to “fight back” against the police and the government.

The Khumbuwan Rashtriya Morcha active in the eastern hills and Ranbir Sena operating in the Tarai have flayed the government for putting in the home ministry´s ´hit list´.

A press release issued by the Ranbir Sena on Sunday quoted its secretary Mohan Pratap Singh (Ranbir) as saying that the Sena will ´fail´ the government´s strategy directed against it.

Similarly, the central committee of the Khumbuwan Morcha too raised strong objection to the government´s move to include the Morcha on the list. At a press conference in Dharan on Sunday, the Morcha said it has been fighting for ethnic rights. The Morcha´s General Secretary Rajan Khumbu said his group has been peacefully fighting against injustice and for establishment of a separate Khumbuwan state. He said his organization is agitated by the government´s move. He said the government´s move is against the spirit of federalism. The Morcha´s public relation in-charge RK Khumbu said the government is compelling the Morcha to intensify agitation.

The Morcha also announced protests to pressure the government to implement the five-point understanding reached with it by the past government.
