There are people with the dream to be a successful businessman. In fact, business is regarded as a sector where success counts a lot. People leave no stone unturned to enlarge their business network, and ultimately reach the summit of success.

The question is: What after being a successful businessman? The question follows a simple answer—a new whim displaces the earlier dream. [break]

Pradeep Jung Pandey, a renowned name in Nepali business arena, is always in search of doing something that makes Nepal stand out in the international business network. Though involved in dozens of businesses, Pandey’s dream of making Nepal completely independent in drugs production and later establishing Nepali brands around the globe really deserves a notice.

Lomus Pharmaceuticals, of which Pandey is the Chairman, was established three decades before, at a time when the country was completely dependent on foreign import of drugs and those produced by the state-owned Royal Drugs Limited (now Nepal Drugs Limited). Pandey, with the commitment to make Nepal self-reliant on drugs, started to penetrate the domestic drug market.

However, it was not as easy for a new drug company to be set up and competing against international brands.

“It was our primary challenge to compete with the then existing drug brands through quality production,” Pandey says.

Committed to meet his goals, he mobilized his domestic products across the country, increased the production of drugs and slowly penetrated the market.

Further, Pandey initiated to establish Lomus Herbaria Limited in 2008 with the aim of fulfilling the growing demands of herbal medicines across the country.

Today, Lomus Pharmaceuticals has established itself tremendously. Accordingly, Nepal is now self-sufficient in most drugs with270 brands produced by his company alone. “My aim of making Nepal self-reliant in drugs has been more or less met,” Pandey shares.

However, as stated earlier, the dream takes another twist. Now, Pandey’s dream is to compete with international drug brands and establish Nepali products all around. This dream of Pandey has as well seen a positive move as his products have started being exported to some of the African countries. “In the long run, they will also be exported in Asian and European nations as well,” Pandey says.

“We should step only in those works that are under our access. Showing strong determination along with hard work takes us closer to success,” concludes Pandey.
