Vanasthali, Army top groups to reach QF

KATHMANDU, Sept 23: Siddhartha Vanasthali, Gandhi Higher Secondary School, Army School and Karmeshwar Higher Secondary School entered the quarterfinals of the boys´ section in the Coca-Cola Cup Inter-school National Boys´ and Girls´ Football Tournament on Monday.



Siddhartha Vanasthali of Kathmandu played a goalless draw with Bhanu Memorial Boarding School of Morang to advance as the winner of Group A. Gandhi Higher Secondary of Kathmandu also produced a similar result to secure berth in the last-eight as the group runner-up. [break]



Bikas Ale scored the only goal as Army School edged past Gandaki Boarding School of Pokhara 1-0 to top Group B and enter the quarterfinals. Karmeshwar of Kailali thrashed Apple Academy of Kathmandu 5-0 to join Army in the last eight as the group runner-up. Suresh Kumar Chaudhary and Kamal Deuba scored a brace each and Prajesh Raji added another for Karmeshwar.



In the girls´ section, Tops Higher Secondary School of Pokhara and Apple Academy of Kathmandu won their respective matches on Monday.



Tops beat Singhadevi Higher Secondary School of Morang 2-0 with goals from Bimala Chaudhary and Nisha Pahadi. Likewise, Apple thrashed Modern Indian School of Kathmandu 8-0. Elisa Shahi completed a hat-trick for Apple while Laxmi Lama, Amrita Rai, Samana Maharjan, Krishna Kumari Karki and Sanchita Rana were also on target.
