7 die in wildfire in Myagdi, Panchthar

KATHMANDU, March 1: At least seven people have died in raging wildfire in Myagdi and Panchthar districts.



According to Kantipur Television, five died, four of them from a single family, on Saturday at Goganpani forest in Kuhu Village Development Committee of Myagdi district after being caught by a wildfire that started four days ago.



Among the dead are Mukti P Gautam, 68, his sons Shree Prasad Gautam and Moha Dutta Gautam and daughter-in-law Parbati; while Domaya Pun of the same village also died in the fire. All of them had gone to the forest to collect firewood, according to the TV channel. Villagers said poachers might be behind the fire.



Meanwhile, two villagers have died in another wildfire that started three days ago at Subhang VDC of Panchthar district. Shukaraj Yokpangden and Dil Kumar Yokpangden died in the fire in the Salleri jungle, the channel reported quoting police. The fire had caught them while returning home from the day´s work in their farm. They breathed their last while being rushed to hospital.
