The inter-department contest between various units of the Nepal Army features competitions in athletics, swimming, boxing, taekwondo, volleyball, basketball and football. Cycling has also been included from this edition. [break]
Altogether 11 teams, including six division headquarters, four directorates and one Special Force unit, will be vying for the title, according to a press statement issued by the Directorate of Public Relations (DPR) of Nepal Army on Sunday.
On the opening day of the competition, Durga Kumari Devkota set a new army record in women´s 100m race with a timing of 12.94 seconds. Krishna Chaudhary and Anju Chaudhary finished second and third respectively in the event.
Men´s 200m and 1500m races were also held on Sunday at the Lagankhel-based sports complex.
Himal KC won the men´s 200m race while Min Chaudhary and Dashiram Chaudhary took the second and third positions.
Likewise, Hari Kumar Rimal, Raj Kumar Bista and Rajan Adhikari secured the top three positions respectively in the men´s 1500m race.
CoAS Rana, the defense secretary and other high-ranking army officials felicitated 100 medal-winning athletes of the army for their success at the national and international level.
Earlier, students of Bijeshwari Secondary School, run by the Nepal Army, gave a taekwondo demonstration.
Meanwhile, Captain Rajiv Chand won the 20km cycling race, which was held on Thursday before the tournament officially kicked off.
Chand finished ahead of Man Bahadur Thapa in the race that started from Suryabinayak of Bhaktapur and concluded at Godavari of Lalitpur. Bikram Rai finished third in the event.
Likewise, Ram Bahadur Tamang, Buddhi Magar and Ram Bahadur Thapa claimed the top three positions respectively in the 40km Suryabinayak-Godavari-Suryabinayak cycling race.
