“She was really an inspiring lady.
She stayed with us for two days and wanted to know a lot about our members, our organization, our work plan and future goals,” said Sunita Dunuwar, president of Shakti Samuha. “She took immense interest in women empowerment projects and expressed her commitment to support the girls and women lifelong,” Dunuwar said.
According to Dunuwar, Momoko´s visit was inspiring also because she was so young, yet, so concerned and sensible about women´s rights. “She really did transfer her energy and positivism to our staffs.”
Momoko, who started her journey from Japan on May 15, has already visited Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and Thailand, among other countries. According to Nepal branch of an organization SPEC - Japan, Nepal is the 7th country Momoko visited in course of her ambitious "world visit."
“Even though the Hindu religion highly reveres women, gender discrimination is rampant in Nepali society. A big reason of this might be that the women have let themselves to become emotionally weak,” the statement quoted Momoko as saying. “Lack of education, superstitions and social backwardness have quite victimized the Nepali women.
The women have very low self esteem. Among the countries I visited so far, I found the status of women to be very poor here,” the statement further quotes her.
Momoko left Nepal on Wednesday for Europe via India.
