According to Metropolitan Police Range (MPR) Spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Arjun Chand, the minibus (BA 2 KHA 9951) heading to Ratnapark from Kandaghari smashed into Sahid Gate premise at around 3pm as the driver tried to protect a pedestrian, Radha Karki, 52, who was declared dead at Bir Hospital within an hour.
Karki, who hailed from Chandragadhi-6 of Jhapa district, used to operate a teashop in Buddhanilkantha.“Eyewitnesses said that the bus driver was trying to save Karki, who was crossing the road from a wrong place,” said DSP Chand. [break]
Other four injured were traveling in the minibus. Gopal Aryal, 41, a resident of Bagbazar, Gokarna Bhatta, 35, of Balaju and Mishri Khakurel, 52, and 28 years-old Geeta Gautam of Old Baneshor are receiving treatment at Bir Hospital, the police said.
Meanwhile, the driver and the conductor are in the custody of the MPR, Hanuman Dhoka for further enquiry. The driver´s license has also been ceased. Similarly, the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD) would check if the driver possessed a forged license. The MTPD has taken the minibus under its control.
Meanwhile, garbage collector was killed when a rikshaw puller hit him at Hadigaun on Thursday. The forty-five-year-old victim Chimse Gurung of Gorkha district was temporarily living at Bhatkeko Pul in the capital.
The rikshaw had first hit another pedestrian as it overturned while making a U-turn. The injured woman is admitted at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj.
