Industrialist Murarka passes away

KATHMANDU, Aug 14: Prominent industrialist Atmaram Murarka passed away in Kathmandu on Wednesday. He was 72.



Murarka breathed his last at Norvic Hospital on Wednesday morning. He was admitted to the hospital a week ago. He was diagnosed of respiratory and heart ailments and high blood pressure. He is survived by his wife, two sons and three daughters.



His youngest son Pashupati Murarka is currently the vice-president of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and handles the Murarka Organization founded by late Murarka. [break]



The Murarka Organization has over a dozen industries, including Pashupati Paints. The organization has business interest in hydro sector, rolling mills, cement factory, vegetable ghee, oil, GI wire, and banks, among others.



Late Murarka served in the executive committee of FNCCI for two terms. He also became the vice-president of FNCCI in 1997.

Anand Raj Mulmi, former president of FNCCI, remembered late Murarka as the person with great self-confidence. “Though he was older than me, I found him quite friendly. He had the nature of reconciliation on any disputes and was farsighted,” said Mulmi.



FNCCI President Suraj Vaidya covered Murarka´s body with FNCCI´s flag.

Issuing a press statement, FNCCI expressed deep sorrow on the death of Murarka. It said the business fraternity has lost an important person.

The last rites of Murarka were performed at Pashupati Aryaghat on Wednesday itself. Former presidents and vice president of FNCCI as well as industrialists and entrepreneurs were present at the Aryaghat to pay their last tributes to the departed soul
