Immediately relocate Bhoje VDC residents: Geologists

LAMJUNG, Aug 14: A team of geologists has advised the local administration to immediately relocate all human settlements at wards 4 and 5 of Bhoje VDC after they found that the villages that face a very high risk of landslides.



A preliminary report submitted to the District Administration Office by the team of experts from the capital has even pinpointed a stretch of land - 450 meters in length and 300 meters in breadth, and located 1,330 meters above the sea level - as extremely prone to landslides.

It may be noted that two decades ago, landslides had displaced almost all the residents of Bhoje VDC.



According to the study, Ward 4 and 5 stand on a very unstable rock formation.

With Dilip Shadaula from the Department of Soil Conservation and Watershed Management as the leader, the team consists of Laxmi Prasad Baskota from Disaster Management Center under the Home Ministry, Engineer Deepak Bharduwaj from the Department of Soil Conservation and Watershed Management, engineer Lulsi Basnet from Ministry of Urban Development, Chief of Lamjung Soil Conservation Office Diwakar Maskay besides Mahesh Adhikari, an engineer at Bhoje VDC.

Among 58 households in the prone area, six of them have been already displaced by a landslide and while six more are on the verge of displacement, informed Shadaula, the team leader.



“In a month time, we will complete the research and suggest preventive measures,” Shadaula added.

Meanwhile, Chief District Officer Baburam Bhandari has informed that they have decided to provide a compensation of Rs 20,000 to each of the displaced families.
