A CEO's IT-driven life

By No Author
A completely professional man, Asgar Ali, after completing his college studies in 2007, had two options at hand: either do a brain drain, or do something in the country itself. The then student of BE Software thought of doing something that really would enhance Nepal as a technologically sound society.

The society at the time was witnessing paradigm shifts, from traditional thoughts to those of technical. Almost all people in the cities using mobile phones and people in rural areas learning to use them, a three-member group of Ali’s batch – Biswas Dhakal, Subash Sharma and Ali himself – thought of doing something within the spectrum of increasing mobile networks in Nepal.[break]

These three youths came up with an idea of electronic banking system where banking transactions, be it withdrawal of money, payment or deposit, could be done through one’s mobile phone or Internet itself. The group started working in a small office, named Fone Pay, primarily with these three founding members.

As a fresh idea, moreover from some fresh youths, it was really difficult to get approved of among the so called technological companies in the country. On this regard, Ali shares, “It was really a hard time when we had to wait a couple of hours outside an IT company along with our proposal in hand.”

Basically targeting the banks of the country, Ali’s group started to acculturate the concept of e-banking in their system. Gradually, the concept became acceptable to all. According to Ali, almost all the banks and most people today have acknowledged the need and benefits of Internet banking.

The IT-driven man and CEO of Fone Pay, Ali has nothing more beyond than his work – his dream to extend his e-banking services to every applicable part of the country.

“Today, around 15 million people are using mobile phones in Nepal. When all of these mobile users will be able to use Internet banking service provided by FonePay, my target shall be met,” says Ali. According to him, 100,000 people at present are using the service of eSewa or Internet banking.

Ali, a dedicated businessman, believes that one should love his business, whatever it is, and should never feel that one is working at his/her office. Ali says, “One should choose such a career where one doesn’t need to wait for the Friday for Saturday day-off.”

According to Ali, he spends more than 80 percent of his working time in his office, and he loves working as a fulltime employee there.
