Bhandari wins title

KATHMANDU: Kamal Bhandari of Nepal Police won the men´s singles title of the Seventh National Soft Tennis Championship on Saturday. Bhandari defeated Manoj Subba of Central Region 4-0 in the final played at the Armed Police Force Headquarters in Halchowk, Kathmandu. [break]



Krishna Bahadur Raut of Eastern Region and Sohan Dhauvadel of Central Region finished third in the event. Vice-president Paramananda Jha handed over prizes to the winners of the six events included in the championship. Altogether 42 players -- 26 male and 16 female -- had participated in the championship organized by Nepal Soft Tennis Association.



Nationwide Shooting from Monday



KATHMANDU : Nepal Shooting Association (NSA) said on Saturday that the Nationwide Open Shooting Championship will begin on Monday at the Satdobato Shooting Range, Lalitpur. The championship, which is scheduled to conclude on Thursday, includes only individual competitions in men´s 10m air rifle and pistol events as well as women´s 10m air rifle and pistol events. According to NSA Secretary Pradeep Khati, altogether 80 shooters from 16 districts and two departmental teams -- Nepal Police and Nepal Army -- are to participate in the championship.



Nepal wins championship



KATHMANDU: Nepal won the team championship of the Fifth Indo-Nepal Shotokan Karate Championship on Saturday. Nepal claimed 44 gold, 16 silver and 40 bronze medals to finish on top while India clinched 16 gold, 44 silver and 48 bronze medals to take second position. Nepali karateka Raju Majhi, who won gold medal in the boys´ 20 kg weight category, and Indian karateka Meghna Chaudhary, who clinched gold in girls´ 45 kg, were adjudged the best players of the tournament. Nepal Karate Federation General Secretary Hari Sharan KC gave away the prizes and medals to the winners.



Maharjan wins Charity Golf



KATHMANDU : Laxmi Man Maharjan won the title of the Charity Golf Tournament organized by the Royal Nepal Golf Club (RNGC) on Saturday. Maharjan accumulated 41 points to win the title.



Narendra Kumar Rai finished second with 39 points while Pushpa Rai won the ladies´ title with 31 points. Pavitra Yakthumba finished runner-up in the ladies´ section with 29 points. Mani Prasad Rai, who scored 37 points, emerged winner in the senior section, finishing eight points ahead of Victory SJB Rana. RNGC had organized the charity tournament to raise funds for flood victims in the far-western region of the country. On the first day of the campaign, the club collected a sum of Rs 250,000 from entrance fees.
