ROLPA, Oct 7: A total 66 people committed suicide in Rolpa district last fiscal year. Of them 38 were men, 25 women and three children.
According to records at the District Police Office, Rolpa, 43 of them took their own life by hanging and 23 by consuming poison. Those committing suicide were more in the rural areas at 47 compared to 19 in the urban area.
Majority of them were married at 51 while 40 belong to the Janajati community. The reason behind most of the suicides were found to be failure in professional life while others include failed love affairs, poverty and mental problem, according to DSP at the Office Ram Prasad Ghartimagar.
Meanwhile, Rolpa police is to run activities aimed at checking the rising trend of suicides in the district in collaboration with political parties, the media and social and civil organizations. RSS
