Law paving way for development and prosperity needed: Home Minister

KATHMANDU, May 22: Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa has stressed on the need of proper laws paving way for development and prosperity. In his address to an interaction on 'Bill Related to Amending and Integrating Laws on Land Acquisition', organized by Nepal Law Commission here today, he said stringent laws were required for the country's development and security.

Thanking the Commission and the task force concerned for preparing the bill with much effort, the Home Minister suggested the Commission to revise the bill by incorporating the constructive suggestions on it. He stated that the bill was important from the perspective of the public welfare, the nation's development and security, arguing the country's development could not take a fast pace either because the land-related policy could not be made in a proper way or the existing policies could not be implemented effectively.

Referring to the progress achieved by various countries in the world on the basis of their land use policy, the Home Minister stressed that the countries having clear-cut land policy have also achieved success in public security. He said promotion of the industrial zone and security force were necessary for development, adding that stringent laws should be made to check the unscrupulous activities of the 'land mafia' as it is found that the mafia are active while carrying out road expansion works, constructing industrial zone and hydropower plants.
