She knows how to stay in the news, but in a constructive way.

Actor Binita Baral, who marked a bold entry to the Nepali cinema industry with a hot avatar in Chapali Height, has once again made the headline. But this time, it’s not her boldness that has made the news but her new initiative – organic farming.[break]

Many people were awed in disbelief when this young actor was pictured handling a tractor in Tokha with rubber gloves on her hands. Leasing three ropanis of land for 10 years and partnering with her friends, Binita has started an organic green house.

“We have planted Sayaptri and Makhmali as well as tomatoes, beans and pumpkins,” says this confident young actress. She’s even attending a basic course in farming at the Agriculture Research Council at Khumaltar “to acquire practical knowledge,” as she puts it.

“If one works with diligence and patience, one can earn a living from farming,” Binita says. “We should take agriculture in a positive note.”

Suggesting young Nepalis to focus on farming rather than going abroad for work, she says she can earn more from farming than films. “But I would stay away from using pesticides, as they would only harm the mother earth,” quips this ‘organic’ girl.
