65 pairs of oxen locking horn on Maghe Sankranti

KATHMANDU, Jan 12: The Rasuwa-Nuwakot Tourism Society has shared information that as many as 65 pairs of oxen were going to fight this year on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti. 

Ox fighting organized at Betrawati and Taruka of Nuwakot will have 47 pairs of oxen, while 17 in Dhading this year. 

Even the Ghalegaon of Nuwakot is organizing the ox fight. Betrawati and Taruka had however been conducting the festival for long. 
Similarly, Dhuwakot of Nilkantha municipality is another location for ox fighting in Dhading district. 

Chairman of the Society, Balram Neupane, 23 pairs of oxen were registered from Taruka while eight from Betrawati and 16 from Ghalegaon and 18 from Dhuwakot. 

Member of the Taruka Ox Fight Festival Organizing Committee, Bishnu Taruke, said in addition to the ox fighting, various cultural pageants and performance by the national artists are to delight the visitors. 

On the occasion, tourism entrepreneurs Ram Sharan Thapaliya and Dipak Mahat said the internal and foreign tourism could be promoted along with the ox fighting festival. 

Although any date of the beginning of this festival is not ascertained, the local elderly put it that the festival has continued for 200 years. RSS
